Guidelines on How to Plan the Lighting Situation of Your Restroom

103 17
After your bedroom, the bathroom is perhaps the next most important area in your home.
What's the first place you go to in the morning? Your restroom.
And what about the last place you visit before you hit the bed? Your bathroom.
This is why you ought to invest a little time and energy to make it more comfortable.
A well designed restroom can become a great room for peace and quiet.
One of the best things you can do to enhance the design of your restroom is improve the lighting situation.
How is this done? First, you want to work with the natural light that shines through your window.
Most times this can be accomplished by opening the curtains and blinds, or sliding the shower drapes so that the windows are exposed.
Get frosted windows if you are worried about privacy.
Next, you'll need to install sufficient illumination from other light sources, for instance electrical and candle light.
A good place to begin is by installing a recessed LED lamp head in the first fourth of your ceiling, another directly in the center, and one more in the last fourth.
Make sure you are able to turn them off and on individually so that you could adjust the lighting conditions to the desired atmosphere.
For instance, if you want to take a soothing night bath, you may want to leave the light closest to the tub off.
Lastly, you may want to spend some time designing the lighting situation of your mirror and sink since this is the area where you dress yourself up.
Large, wide mirrors will often do well with vanity light fixtures.
You can put up one long fixture to straddle the top pane, or install a fixture vertically along each side.
However, if you have a relatively small mirror, try installing one sconce on each side of the mirror at head level.
