The first step after acquiring the proper materials, tools and solvents would be to remove the mats.
Items you will need - A carpet cleaning system or machine (ie.
Rug Doctor, etc.
) - cleaning solvent - a fan or hair dryer - towel, sponge and washcloth - spray bottle - white vinegar - soapy water - hydrogen peroxide - hard plastic spatula - foam fabric cleaner - paper towels Remove The Residual Stains Firstly, you will want to remove the residue from any of the stains.
If the stain is still fresh or wet, then use the paper towels in a blotting motion to remove the residue and if the stain is older and more dry, then use the spatula to scrape off the residue taking caution not to tear the fabric by scraping too hard.
Then you will want to use the gentlest cleaning solution first as the harsher ones may bleach of fade the carpet.
Spray the soapy water on the stained potion of the carpet.
Let this stand for approximately 15 minutes and then use a damp sponge or wash cloth to wipe away the soapy water.
Auto carpet cleaning can be somewhat time consuming.
Remove the Set Stains If the stain is like an oil based stain, like a crayon stain, you should use a solvent cleaner and if so then make certain you closely follow the directions.
However, you may choose a homemade mixture such as 3 cups of water with 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide and let sit for ten minutes after applying it.
Then rinse with a mixture of white vinegar and cold water.
Be sure to use small amounts of hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar in the mixtures as they can both bleach the carpet.
For extremely ground in and tough stains when it comes to auto carpet cleaning you should use a portable carpet cleaning machine and by simply following the directions, you will see professional results.
No matter which method you choose however, you will want the carpets to be completely dry to prevent mold and mildew.
You can achieve this by using a hair dryer or fan.
These basic tips should lead you to great success in your auto carpet cleaning project.
