How to Make an Illusion Costume for Kids
- 1). Purchase an animal costume that fits your child in the legs. Cut off the legs of the costume at the waist and sew a hem to finish the edge of the costume. These are the pants for the costume.
- 2). Using the soft foam stuffing, stuff the animal head that you removed from the costume. Stuff the head until it is entirely full, then sew it closed.
- 3). Sew the back of the animal head onto the top part of the waistband that contains the animal's legs.
- 4). Attach a wide, U-shaped piece of elastic to the chin part of the animal's head. Run the elastic over the child's shoulders to make suspenders. There should be one suspender over each shoulder. Continue to place elastic all the way down the child's back until you get to the pants. Sew the suspenders onto the back of the pants. Make sure that they fit snugly over the child's shoulders.
- 5). Use similar toned fabric to create a second pair of animal legs. Cut 2, 2-foot long tubes of fabric and sew each tube together on one side. Stuff the fabric with foam stuffing. Sew each end of the tube shut.
- 6). Sew the tube legs on the right and left sides of the animal's head just below the child's waist. This creates the illusion that the child is riding the animal.
- 7). Ask the child to move her legs forward. As she moves, it will look like she is riding a bucking animal that has two legs in the air and two on the ground.
