How to Change a Bathtub Faucet With Shower Diverter
- 1). Look for a hex screw on the bottom or side of the tub spout. If no screw is present, the bathtub faucet attaches by simply screwing onto the threaded pipe protruding out of the shower wall.
- 2). Turn the faucet counterclockwise to remove it from the threaded pipe. Stick the handle of a screwdriver into the end of the faucet for leverage if you can’t loosen it by hand.
- 3). Clean the threads with a wire brush to remove any corrosion and thread sealant.
- 4). Wrap two layers of Teflon tape clockwise around the threads to help seal the connection to the new faucet.
- 5). Thread the new faucet onto the pipe, being careful not to cross-thread the faucet. Turn the faucet clockwise until hand tight. Continue turning the faucet clockwise until it is pointing down.
- 1). Faucets with a retaining screw simply slip over the end of the supply pipe and fasten in place with a retaining screw. Loosen the retaining screw on the bottom or side of the faucet, turning the screw counterclockwise until the faucet turns freely on the pipe.
- 2). Turn the faucet from side to side and pull it straight out, using firm, even pressure until it comes off the pipe.
- 3). Slide the new faucet over the end of the pipe. Push it back until it's firmly against the shower wall.
- 4). Hold the bathtub faucet against the shower wall with firm pressure and tighten the retaining screw.
