How to Remove Front Forks
- 1). Open the bike work stand clamp and set the bicycle in at the seat post. Clamp the work stand closed to secure the bicycle.
- 2). Cut off any zip ties or attachment cables on the front of the fork. Unscrew the brake mounts using the allen keys. Remove the brakes from the fork and allow them to hang to the side of the bicycle on the brake cables. Open the center lever on the wheel and turn to the left to loosen and remove the front wheel.
- 3). Unscrew the allen bolts on the handlebar stem. Remove the stem and handlebar unit. Keep them together, as you do not need to remove the handlebars from the stem itself, just remove the solid stem/handlebar unit and let it hand to the side of the bicycle via the cables.
- 4). Place the adjustable wrench over the front fork's screw attachment at the frame and turn to the left to loosen. Once loosened, tap the top of the fork, gently, by placing a rag on the tube and tapping it with the rubber mallet until the front fork comes out.
- 5). Push the headset tool onto the fork stem sticking up from the frame and turn to break the headset apart if the bicycle uses an unthreaded headset. Let the front fork drop out.
