How to Use Silicone Grease to Get a Better Seal on a Toilet Valve Seal
- 1). Turn the shut-off valve on the wall in back of the toilet clockwise to interrupt the water flow to the toilet.
- 2). Empty the toilet by flushing it once. The water will empty from both the tank and the toilet bowl, and since the water flow is shut off, they will remain empty while you work.
- 3). Soak up as much excess water from inside the tank as possible using a sponge. Finish drying the tank out with a rag.
- 4). Pull up on the chain that is connected to the toilet valve flapper. Grasp the flapper and squeeze a small line of silicone grease around the lower ridge.
- 5). Release the chain to lower the toilet valve flapper into position. Allow the silicone grease to dry completely before turning the water back on. Check with the instructions on the silicone grease for drying time.
