How to Clean the Black Sponge Roller on an HP Laserjet Printer 1100
- 1). Close all open parts of the printer. Push down or remove the paper feeder on the top. Lay the printer on a flat surface.
- 2). Stand the printer on the flat side so you can see where the power cord enters the printer. Remove the power cord.
- 3). Wear the latex gloves and open the printer by opening the two latches holding the door closed. When it is open you will see the inner workings of the printer.
- 4). Remove the print cartridge. Hold it gently by the top and pull it straight out.
- 5). Find the pick up roller. The pick up roller is in the center just at the back of where you removed the cartridge. Turn the bottom of the pickup roller in the direction of the front of the printer. Carefully pull the roller out.
- 6). Look for the transfer roller. It is a black sponge like roller about 8 inches long. It is located just behind the cartridge housing. Do not touch the transfer roller with your bare hands.
- 7). Take a microfiber cloth and gently wipe the transfer roller on the exposed side. Wipe it in a gentle downward motion.
- 8). Turn the roller ¼ of a turn. Wipe with a clean part of the microfiber cloth using the same gentle downward motion as in STEP 7. Repeat this turning ¼ of a turn at a time until you wiped the entire roller clean.
- 9). Put back the pick up roller by snapping it back in place. Turn it once to make sure it can spin freely.
