How to Close an External Monitor on a Laptop
- 1). Consult your laptop's instruction manual and find out if it has external display functionality. Most newer laptops are capable of outputting to external monitors by connecting through VGA or DVI outputs on the back of the laptop.
- 2). Connect one end of your video cable to your laptop computer. Connect the other end to your monitor's video input port.
- 3). Turn on your laptop and right-click on the desktop and choose "Display."
- 4). Click on the "Settings" tab and choose your monitor from the drop-down menu.
- 5). Check the box labeled "Extend My Windows Desktop onto this Monitor" and click "Apply." Your monitor should now display your desktop and function exactly the same as your laptop's display does.
