How to Make a Floating Compass
- 1). Rub the needle with the magnet 50 times to turn it into a magnet itself.
- 2). Cut a 1/4-inch piece from the thicker end of the cork with a knife.
- 3). Float the cork on water in a cup.
- 4). Place the needle on top of the cork.
- 5). Spin the cork gently. When the cork stops spinning the needle will be pointing in a North-South direction. If you spin the cork again, the needle will return to the same position.
