    • 1). Connect the iPod to the iPod connector cable. Connect the cable to a computer's USB port. Wait for the iPod's battery to fully charge. Remove the iPod connector from the USB port of the computer and from the iPod.

    • 2). Turn on the iPod. Hold the iPod to your ear with one hand and listen for the clicking sounds that indicate the hard drive is out of alignment. Take the iPod away from your ear.

    • 3). Hold the iPod in one hand and open the palm of your other hand. Quickly smack the narrow side of the iPod against the palm of your other hand.

    • 4). Wait a few seconds and smack the iPod again. Repeat this procedure four more times. If the clicking stops after one of the times that you smack the iPod, do not smack the iPod again and instead go on to the next step.

    • 5). Look at the iPod screen. The sad iPod folder should now be replaced by the Apple logo. Wait for the iPod menu to appear. Turn off the iPod when the iPod menu appears.

Connect the USB IPod connector to the iPod and to the USB port of the computer. Wait for the iPod to fully charge.

Remove the iPod from the USB iPod connector and from the USB port of the computer. Turn the iPod on. Pick music from the iPod menu and listen to it.
