How to Save Apps From an iPod Touch to a PC

    • 1). Download applications from the App Store to your iPod touch from anywhere. You can download free apps or pay for Apps (using your AppleID). All of these apps appear on transferring to your phone as "purchases," whether you paid for them or not. It's important to remember this phrasing, since you'll need it to look for "purchases" in order to transfer the apps to your computer.

    • 2). Open iTunes. Click "Store," and then choose "Authorize This Computer" from the menu. Enter your Apple ID and password and then click "Authorize." This tells Apple that your computer and your iPod touch use the same Apple ID, which allows you to transfer your apps to iTunes. Apple protects its content with authorization like this to prevent sharing purchased content. You can authorize up to five computers at a time with a single Apple ID.

    • 3). Connect your iPod touch to your computer using the supplied USB data cable. If you've already connected the iPod touch to another computer, iTunes will show a message saying "Your iPod is synced with another iTunes library..." and give you two options: "Transfer Purchases" and "Erase and Sync." Click "Transfer Purchases." If you don't see this option, skip to Step 4.

    • 4). Look for your device on the left-hand side of iTunes in the section labelled "Devices." Right-click on the device and choose "Transfer Purchases." iTunes copies all of your downloaded content to your iTunes media folder, which you can find under "Tools," "Options," "Advanced."

    • 5). Click on your iPod touch under "Devices," and then click on "Apps" along the top of the main iTunes window to see a list of all the applications on your touch. You can now safely remove apps from the device, since you have a backup on your computer. Click the check box beside "Sync Apps" to access the full list of apps, and then uncheck apps you don't want on your device. You can also rearrange how your apps appear on the iPod's home screen from this window.
