What Is an SD-ROM Drive?
- An SD-ROM is a Secure Digital Read Only Memory drive. It's a port on desktop or laptop computers into which SD cards can be inserted so the computer can access the data stored on the card.
- SD cards are small, sturdy and highly portable devices for holding electronic data. They are used most often in digital cameras, but also have uses in mobile phones and GPS systems. The main strength of these cards is their portability, making it easy to remove and replace one in a device with minimal fuss. Despite their small size, they can hold up to 2 gigabytes of information.
- Since it is a "read only" drive, an SD-ROM port will only be able to view the information on an SD card. The user will be unable to make any changes to the data stored on the card, or add data to it.
