How to Make a Basement Sump Pump Run Quietly
- 1). Inspect the switch on the sump pump to ensure it is in the "Off" position. If it does not turn off at the appropriate level, it makes a gurgling noise.
- 2). Fill a bucket with clear water and pour it into the sump pump.
- 3). Wait for the sump pump to activate, and notate the level at which it shuts off. Typically, 6 to 8 inches of water remain in sump pumps at all times. Yours may not activate until the water reaches the intake valve, thus causing the noise.
- 4). Adjust the switch to the right or left so that it activates when several inches of water remain in the pump. This normally eliminates the noise.
