Campgrounds

• Campers can choose from campgrounds in the Stephenson area including J.W. Wells State Park, Coyote RV Park and Campground and Shakey Lakes Park. J.W. Wells State Park is in Cedar River, just 12 miles away from Stephenson. The state park is set on 678 acres and features a sandy beach shoreline. Visitors can choose from different camping accommodations like tent camping, rustic cabins, camper cabins, lodge units and RV campsites.
  
  

Features and Amenities

• Shakey Lakes Park is just 11 miles from Stephenson and offers amenities like 2/30/50-amp electric service, rest room and shower facilities, playground, pavilion and a sandy beach. Boaters can use the park's two boat launches at Resort Lake and Bass Lake. Swim at the sandy beach area or hike the two-mile nature trail with picturesque water views of the lake.
  
  

Activities

• Campers can enjoy a variety of recreation in Stephenson including fishing, boating, swimming and hiking during the summer months. If you prefer winter camping, activities include cross-country skiing, ice fishing and snowshoeing. Bring your fishing lines and cast for bass, walleye, pike, panfish, trout and salmon in Cedar River. In Resort and Bass lakes, walleye, bass and trout are plentiful and can be caught from the shores or by trolling.
  
  

Regulations and Policies

• J.W. Wells State Park is open year-round; however, campsites for tents and tepees can only be booked or reserved through the beginning of August. Cabins and yurts can be reserved through the beginning of February. Campsites at Shakey Lake Park are only open seasonally starting from Memorial Day weekend until the Tuesday after Labor Day. Some campsites are open after the season but with limited service.
