How to Cut a Turkey-Shaped Cake
- 1). Bake cake batter in two round or oval bowls and a loaf pan. When the cakes are completely cooled set the loaf-shaped cake into the refrigerator to chill. Set the round cakes on a counter for several hours or overnight to allow the surface to harden slightly. This will make the cake easier to carve and shape.
- 2). Place one round cake, rounded side down on a piece of waxed paper. Spread a layer of frosting on the flat top-side of the cake. Place the second round cake on top of the frosting, flat side down.
- 3). Cut two inches off of one side of the set of cakes to create a flat surface. Turn the cakes round-side up with the flat cut side down on a serving tray, turkey platter or aluminium baking pan.
- 4). Carve both sides of the front of the cake slightly to round the turkey body to an overall plump pear shape.
- 5). Scoop a rounded hole in the center of the larger rounded portion of the turkey body with a spoon and knife.
- 6). Remove the loaf cake from the refrigerator. Cut the cake in half on a diagonal. Cut the pointed end away from the piece and set it aside. Use small cuts to shape the large end of the cake into a rounded shape like a turkey leg.
- 7). Cut the remaining loaf cake into v-shaped wings. Assemble and frost the turkey-shaped cake.
