How to Detect CD Copy Protection
- 1). Download Detector from the Softpedia website (see Resources). The free Detector application contains the necessary tools to both detect copy protection on a CD and also to clone most CDs as a direct copy.
- 2). Insert the CD that you want to detect into the CD drive of the computer. Launch Detector on your computer by going to "Start," "All Programs," "Detector."
- 3). Click the "Detect" button that appears in the Detector screen. If the program detects copy protection, the diamond-shaped button in the Detection Found box turns red and the type of detection on the disk is listed.
- 1). Download the Copy Discovery application from Softpedia (see Resources). Copy Discovery provides a number of scanning tools, including a tool for CDs.
- 2). Put the CD that you want to detect into the computer's CD drive. Go to the "Start" menu, "All Programs" and click "Copy Discovery" to launch the scanner on your screen.
- 3). Select the "CD/DVD Scan" option from the main menu. In the scanning window that comes up, use the drop-down menu to select the drive that contains the CD you want to detect and click the "Scan" button. A summary of copy protection found on the disc displays on the screen.
- 1). Download A-Ray Scanner from Game Burn World (see Resources). The A-Ray Scanner offers only a detection tool, with no additional tools for burning.
- 2). Place the CD you want to detect into the computer's CD drive. Open the A-Ray Scanner on your computer from "Start," "All Programs," "A-Ray Scanner."
- 3). Click the arrow by the top drop-down menu in A-Ray Scanner to display all of the drives on the system, and select the drive that contains the CD. Click the "Scan" button to scan the CD for copy protection. If the program finds copy protection, it lists the name of the protection in the bottom window pane. If A-Ray finds no copy protection, "No protection detected" appears in the results in the window.
