How to Remain Active When Working From Home
- 1). Get up out of that chair. Working from home often involves sitting at a computer for eight or more hours each day. Your waistline can and will suffer if you sit for eight hours straight. You need to get up from that chair several times a day. Take a few breaks each day to walk around the house. Give your eyes a rest and your legs some exercise.
- 2). Exercise in your office. You can get in a little exercise without leaving your home office area. Again, you will need to get up out of your chair. Stand by your chair to do some jumping jacks. Keep a jump rope by your desk to get in a few skips of the rope. Sit by your chair and do some sit-ups or even some pushups. Find ways to exercise throughout the day.
- 3). Go for a walk or jog a few times each week. Take a little time to yourself in the morning or in the evening to go for a walk. If walking is not your style, perhaps you might like to go for a jog. You do not need to leave your neighborhood or head out to an overpriced gym to get exercise. Just get outdoors at least 3 or 4 times per week.
- 4). Take the hard way out when you are away from home. You are able to sit all day for work; therefore, it might be helpful to make things a little harder on yourself when you are out of the house. Instead of driving around looking for the closest parking space at your local mall, look for one that is far away. Skip that elevator or escalator and head straight for the steps. Leave the car behind and walk to places that are safely within walking distance. Find ways to push yourself to be active when away from the office.
- 5). Get out and play! At the end of a hard day, get out and play with the kids. You will be surprised at how youthful you will feel and how many calories you can burn just by playing outside. If you have a dog but no children, take the dogs out for a game of catch or another little walk before dark each day. Find anything that you can do outside that you can enjoy while keeping your body moving.
