But on the other hand there's nothing wrong at all by learning about the more commonly seen mistakes in copywriting that will work against you. One of the biggest mistakes is not learning at least the basic details about what they are promoting. If you don't have a lot of knowledge about the product you will have a hard time trying to convince people to buy it. The reader will know instantly that you are trying to sell them something you know nothing about. This will obviously have a negative impact on your conversions as well as on your sales rate. Never forget that you need to know everything there is to know about the product you are selling--the good and the bad. Once you know the product completely you will be able to use creativity to illustrate the better points. If you are sure of your product knowledge this will show in your writing and your customer will get a fair view of what you are selling. Think of the headline as the sales copy for your copy because that is the job it has to do - get your letter read. When you don't have an interesting headline that grabs attention, you lose sales because not many people will read beyond the headline. To drive the point home, just remember that your headlines will only get about two seconds, roughly, to get the job done and make the reader want to know more. So that is why all the professional copywriters spend a great deal of time on the headline. There are several approaches to writing headlines, and we cannot cover all of them here; but one often-mentioned approach involves putting your product's biggest benefit in the headline. If you can put out an effective headline, then that will help you tremendously.

The call-to-action is one thing that all of your sales and marketing materials absolutely need to have. What function does sales copy have in life? Right, only to produce sales for you. But a sales copy is always incomplete if you don't have a strong call to action that tells the prospect what to do.

It's a confirmed fact that all markets and readers of sales copy must be told to buy something at the end. So just tell them what ever it is you want them to do next. If you're offering a download for something, you can simply say; "Download Now." It's really simple, and it is always advised to use very few words. You can optimize as much as possible by testing, and you can easily test different calls to action in your copy.

Any writer will tell you it requires time and dedication to become an effective copywriter. But that doesn't mean you should make mistakes that you can avoid. Keep records of what you read, and try to keep in mind about the mistakes you read about.
