How to Compare High Speed Wireless
- 1). Look at what type of wireless network is being created. A wireless "local area network" is a type of network that connects one computer to another computer. A wireless Internet network is a type of network that connects one or more computers to the World Wide Web.
- 2). Look at the total range of any high-speed wireless computer networks you're comparing. The range refers to the maximum distance you can be from the source of the network and still be able to connect to it with a wireless device like a laptop computer or personal data assistant. The higher the range, the better the reception you'll get from your high-speed wireless network over long distances.
- 3). Look at the type of broadcasting technology that is creating your high-speed wireless networks. The standard type of wireless network being used today is classified as 802.11n. This is used for both wireless local area and wireless Internet networks.
- 4). Look at whether the router that is creating a high-speed wireless network also has the ability to simultaneously create a wired network. Examine the back of any computer router that is in a wireless networking setup. If the router has a number of Ethernet ports (typically four or eight) on the back of its case, you can also use it to create a wired network. If no Ethernet ports exist, you can only use it for wireless networking purposes.
