Plastic is one of the most versatile materials for making numerous every day items.
From commonly used household products to the office storage accessories to industrial bottles and packaging materials, plastic has wide usage across industries, businesses, and households and has become indispensable part of our daily lives.
The most commonly used products in our daily lives are plastic bottles.
Although we use it in our daily lives, we hardly spend any time thinking about the wastage that it produces and the possible environmental hazard that it poses.
However, our ignorance about its fate after use does not make it useless.
In fact, these plastic bottles and other disposable plastic waste products are recycled as plastic lumber and reused in different avatars.
At the initial stages, these plastic bottles are segregated from other plastic products.
Similar plastics are cleaned and grounded into small pieces.
These grounded pieces of plastic are then melted and transported through an extruder for molding them into rectangular shapes.
Before the molten plastic is converted to rectangular shapes, even consistency of the plastic is ensured so that the new products created out of this recycled plastic retain their quality.
The new rectangular shaped plastic is then passed through a cooling chamber where jets of cold water are sprayed on them.
This ensures that the hot plastic does not rise like dough and aids in faster cooling.
The rectangular plastic blocks are than air dried and again passed through a cooling chamber.
This is done to ensure that the plastic is cooled evenly.
The cooled plastic lumber is then slightly heated at the top to give it a wooden grain finish via an embosser.
These new plastic is ready and can be transformed into various products.
As most of us do not pay much attention to the items of daily use, we seldom realize that they may be made of recycled plastic.
The recycling of these plastics prevents the spread of non-degradable waste products and helps to save the environment at large.
Many of the plastic products we use were once plastic bottles, cups and other common items of daily use.
These items of daily use have been converted into yet another item of daily use such as recycled plastic tables, benches, and other products.
Moreover, these plastic tables and benches made out of recycled plastics are more durable than wooden lumber used traditionally.
So next time when you are sitting in a garden bench, do not forget that the bench might not have been there if plastics are not recycled.
