How to Make a Vine Wall With Tomatoes
- 1). Fill four to six 18-inch-wide pots with potting soil, and dig a 6-inch-deep hole into the middle of each soil-filled pot.
- 2). Insert the roots of an 8- to 10-inch-high tomato plant into each hole, then cover the roots with more soil. Water each plant thoroughly.
- 3). Position the pots in a row against an exterior wall of your home. Space each pot 12 to 18 inches apart.
- 4). Place a sheet of garden mesh against the wall, then staple the mesh onto the wall using a staple gun and 1/2-inch-wide staples.
- 5). Twist florist wire lightly around each tomato plant to secure it onto the mesh wall covering.
- 6). Allow the tomato plants to grow normally for two weeks, keeping the plants watered and in full sunlight.
- 7). Remove the florist wire from each tomato plant, and allow the tomato plants to stretch out to their full, newly grown height.
- 8). Tie the florist wire around the tomato plants where they're now positioned.
- 9). Repeat this process until the tomato vines reach their mature height, repositioning the florist wire every two weeks.
