How to Install a New Dryer Vent Flap
- 1). Remove the tape from the connection where your dryer vent piping connects to your dryer vent hood. Pull apart the pipe.
- 2). Unscrew the dryer vent hood from the outside of your home, using a cordless drill. If the hood is caulked to the wall, loosen the caulk seal by cutting around the hood with a utility knife.
- 3). Grasp the dryer vent hood and pull it out of the wall. Slide your new hood into the hole and screw it to the wall once it is level, using the drill.
- 4). Load up a tube of exterior silicone caulk in your caulk gun and caulk around the dryer vent hood. This will seal it to the wall to prevent water from getting behind it.
- 5). Slide the dryer vent pipe into the hood.
- 6). Tape the connection together with foil aluminum tape. Press tight to ensure a snug connection.
