Kids with Asthma Can Still Play Sports

Kids with Asthma are often very good athletes and if they are careful they can still play sports, they just have to be aware of the issues that confront the asthma condition.
Perhaps you knew kids with Asthma growing up that were on your sports teams, I do recall this myself, and I remember a few of the kids who had Asthma to be very good athletes, with rarely ever any difficulty.
Once in a while it was an issue in practice and I can only remember one incident during competition, which was taken care of immediately and was not any serious issue.
Indeed, severe Asthma conditions are serious, when the inflammation constricts the airflow in the air pipes to the lungs so completely that oxygen is unable to get to the vital organs, this could be extremely serious.
However, those with mild conditions can play sports and you will note that they will have one of those inhalers with them or nearby in case there is a problem.
If an athlete is near animal dander, pollen or mold while competing this can be a problem, as allergens are known to trigger Asthma attacks.
So too are such things as cigarette smoke, or air pollution, which is why it is not wise to do strenuous activities during smog alerts and thus, Asthmatic athletes need to be a little more cognizant and aware of such things.
Changes in weather such as cold air can irritate the air pipes to the lungs.
Also, too much perfume, fresh paint or the aroma of cooking.
Did you know that such emotional states as laughing too hard or crying, have also been known to trigger attacks? All these things should be considered when dealing with the Asthmatic athlete, so talk about it and ask a qualified doctor for more advice.
