How to Make an ISO Image of My C Drive
- 1). Download and install an ISO creation program such as ISO Recorder as this functionality is not built-in to Windows XP or Vista. Other popular programs are Folder2ISO and Free ISO Creator.
- 2). Open ISO Recorder, right-click on the C drive and select "Create ISO image file." The ISO Recorder window will be displayed. Note that a C drive is usually too big to fit on a CD or DVD, so it will need to be backed up to an external hard drive.
- 3). Input the volume name and destination of the ISO file and click "Next." Click "Finish" to create the ISO file.
- 4). Click the Folder2ISO.exe file and click the "Select Folder" icon to select the C drive. Click the "Select Output" button and choose the target location to place the final image. Click the "Generate ISO" button to create the ISO.
- 5). Open Free ISO Creator and select "Options" to choose what type of ISO to create. Click the "Add Files" button to select the C drive. Click the "Save ISO As" button and choose the target for the ISO file. Click "Convert" to create the ISO file.
- 6). Backup the ISO file with your backup software, or copy and paste the ISO file to an external hard drive.
