Allergy Diets
- All dairy products, eggs, foods containing wheat or gluten, citrus fruits, corn and corn additives, peas, bacon, sausage, deli meats, hot dogs, peanuts, chocolate, sugar, beans, caffeine, food coloring, yeast, condiments, spices, soy products and processed foods are eliminated. These foods are common allergens.
- All eliminated foods are removed from the diet for five to 10 days or until there is improvement that lasts more than 48 hours.
- Once the dieter has eliminated all the required foods and been without symptoms for 48 hours, he or she must eat one of the eliminated foods every day and note any reactions.
- If no reaction occurs within 24 hours it is considered a safe food that can be added back into the diet. If reactions occur, though, the individual has an allergy and/or a sensitivity and should refrain from eating that foods in the future.
- For breakfast, try eating bananas, melons, baked sweet potatoes, fruit smoothies made without dairy products, unsweetened rice yogurts, rice milks, hot rice cereals, almonds, pecans and pears.
Enjoy homemade vegetable or lentil soups with a side salad or rice pasta with vegetables for lunch. If you are hungry, snack on permitted fruits, carrots and celery throughout the day.
For dinner, eat chicken over rice with broccoli, rice pasta with vegetables, a salad with grilled chicken, baked fish with asparagus, mixed steamed vegetables or lamb steaks with a side salad.
