Valentine Door Decorations
- Add some Valentine glitz to your door using metallic-colored wrapping paper, double-sided sticky tape, and pink, red and white construction paper. All you need is a pair of scissors. Begin this project by wrapping your entire door in silver or gold metallic wrapping paper, which is available at your local craft or stationary store. Secure the wrapping paper to the door using double-sided sticky tape. Use paper-cutting scissors or a utility knife to cut around any existing door knobs, hangers or windows.
Use your paper-cutting scissors to cut out various-sized hearts from pink, red and white construction paper. Secure them to the door, using double-sided sticky tape, in any pattern that you desire for a one-of-a-kind Valentine door. - Make your very own rag-tied heart to create an understated, more simple country Valentine door using a wire hanger, a pair of pliers or wire cutters, various calico or homespun plaid fabric scraps and fabric-cutting scissors. Begin by twisting a wire hanger into the shape of a heart. Use a pair of pliers or wire cutters if you have difficulty shaping the hanger. Cut off and discard any excess wire. Set the heart aside while you cut out fabric strips from calico or homespun cotton fabric. If you prefer a fuller, more substantial-looking wreath, cut the strips about 7 to 8 in. long and one in. wide. For a more primitive country look, cut the strips about 4 to 5 in. long and 1/2 in. wide. In either case, you will need about 100 strips in any color that you desire. Red and pink calico prints will give you a traditional Valentine feel, while muted mustard and cranberry homespun plaids and checks will provide you with a more primitive-looking wreath.
Tie each fabric strip onto the wire heart in a sequential pattern until you have covered the entire wire frame. As you make your way around the heart, push the tied strips slightly to the left to tighten them and eliminate any empty spots on the wire frame. When complete, hang your homemade rag wreath on your door for a simple country Valentine display. - Make a quick trip to your local arts and crafts store to purchase a heart-shaped grapevine wreath and several materials to embellish it, such as red and pink faux berries, artificial flowers, red apples and raffia or a valentine-inspired ribbon. At home, plug in your hot-glue gun, and place the grapevine wreath on a piece of newspaper to protect your work surface from hot glue drops. Surround the heart with the wreath-making materials that you selected. Once the glue is hot, begin filling in the Valentine wreath with the various berries, silk flowers and red apples that you chose. Secure them to the wreath using hot glue. Repeat elements on your wreath in patterns of three to achieve balance.
Once you are pleased with your wreath, tie a simple bow using raffia or ribbon and attach it to the bottom or top of the wreath using hot glue. Then hang your one-of-a-kind wreath on the front door for a bit of Valentine flair.
