How to Care for a Computer Power Supply
- 1). Power off the computer. Unplug all of the computer's cables. Note which panel is the left one while facing the front of the computer.
- 2). Pull out the computer case, and place it on a flat surface. If you have an anti-static mat, place the computer on top of the mat. If you have an anti-static bracelet, attach it to your wrist.
- 3). Turn the left side panel so that it is facing you. (You identified the panel in the previous step.) Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove any screws that hold the side panel in place. If you have a screwless case, skip this step.
- 4). Locate the power supply. It is usually in the upper-left corner of the case and has a number of cables running from it to the motherboard and to the drives.
- 5). Turn the PC on its side. The open side should be parallel to the surface.
- 6). Attach the nozzle to the compressed air can. Locate the power supply's intake fan. Tilt the air compressor and spray evenly across the intake fan's surface in short bursts.
- 7). Wipe the power supply with a microfiber cloth. Start with the internal parts and continue with the outtake and external section.
- 8). If you have a battery-powered, handheld vacuum cleaner, suction any dust from the outtake fan.
- 9). Reattach the side panel. Plug in all cables.
