Picking the Best Window Treatment For Your Home and Style

103 39
Treat Windows Right When picking an addition to any window, no matter for what room, you must first narrow down your choices some.
How about great blinds, curtains, shades, drapes, or shutters? There are lots of choices to pick from.
Do not get me started on the types of each, the list could go on forever.
The reasons for getting a window treatment can vary, but for some it is not even a choice at all.
A window addition can save energy, and that means money, money some may not have to spend.
Think about it, a window treatment can insulate from cold, heat, noise, and of course the sun.
The cooling and heating save on the power bill, that is simple, but what about the sun? Pounding on your homes paint and floors? The sun can fade colors of furniture and walls and can hurt your eyes and cause glare.
Picking the right type of treatment is big, for you, your home, and your wallet.
So picking the most cost effective, energy saving, and best looking treatment is a big deal.
So where do we start? Blinds, curtains, shades, drapes and shutters.
Blinds are window treatments that can expand and collapse over a window letting light in or keeping it out.
These feature slates that block the light, they can be made out of many things including wood and plastic.
A cheap wood blinds guide says that fake wood blinds can lower the cost by not getting real wood.
Blinds have the ability to further adjust by rotating slates to let some light in if desired.
Blinds can block out light, sound, heat, and cold, depending on what they are made of.
Shutters are similar to blinds but at the same time different then any other window treatment.
Shutters can be made to work on the outside or inside of a home.
Normally the outside version was built along with the rest of the house when it is made, however interior shutters are a treatment done later when a home is being furnished.
Shutters feature slates like blinds, only shutters have much larger slates and are made of wood or metal, but never anything weak like materials normally used in blinds.
The slates on shutters can be fixed or movable.
Curtains are the more simple choice when it comes to window treatments for your home.
These normally can be done yourself, and there is a wide selection to chose from and fit your needs.
Curtains hang from simple curtin rods, that can be customized to fit the curtains you want.
Curtains are cheap and can be made of many fabric materials including those that completely filter light and sound.
Drapes go over curtains mainly just for looks.
The styles you can pick from are very large and very greatly one to another to give your home a special look.
Shades are very close to curtains in that they are made to be very simple and can be made out of many different materials.
One difference though is that they can be made of something that is not fabric materials like wooden strips, as well as fabric, unlike curtains that must be made of fabrics alone.
The choice of what window treatment to get for your home may be difficult, but remember each room is different and you can experiment and test to your budgets desire.
