Natural Ways to Get Rid of Dandelions
- The best natural way to get rid of dandelions is to physically remove them. You can either mow more often to prevent the blossoms from maturing, or uproot them by hand. If you want to uproot them by hand, yank off the heads, pull them up completely by the root or buy a specialized dandelion remover tool that works by maneuvering the root in the soil. Leave the grass clippings on the ground. It will acts as a mulch and prevent dandelions from growing optimally.
- Poach dandelions with boiling water. Pour boiling water over dandelions for a few seconds until the weed is well-saturated and wait two or three days. Repeat the processes with dandelions that are still alive.
- Pour a 5-percent concentration of vinegar over dandelions, just until the dandelion is saturated. The acid in the vinegar will act as an herbicide. However, it is not a selective herbicide. Use this method when you don't mind killing some of your grass too.
- Corn gluten meal is used to feed farm animals, but it is also a natural pre-emergent herbicide. It prevents roots from growing and is safe for kids and pets. To prevent dandelions from popping out of the ground, spread it over the lawn a month before dandelion season. Don't put the meal on newly planted grass or flowers, as it will kill them.
