Mold Allergy Checklist
Mold Allergy Checklist
- Clean weekly. Disinfect where mold grows -- in trash cans, sinks, and bathrooms.
- Look for leaks. Check your roof and pipes beneath sinks and in the basement.
- Dry damp areas quickly. Mold can start growing within 24 to 48 hours.
- Keep indoor humidity 50% or lower. Use a dehumidifier if needed.
- Don't overwater indoor plants. Damp soil grows mold.
- Keep your fridge clean. Watch for mold in drip trays and on door seals.
- Clean mold from heating or AC ductwork. Hire a professional to do it.
- Limit storage in damp basements or garages. Don't give mold a chance to grow.
- Remove carpet in damp areas. Carpet in bathrooms or the basement can breed mold.
- Ventilate kitchens and bathrooms. Install exhaust fans to vent moisture.
- Move mold away. Keep compost piles, yard clippings, and firewood far from the house.
- Make sure gutters are clean. If they're blocked, mold can grow.
- Check your foundation. The ground should slope away from it. If it doesn't, water may drain into your basement.
- Stock up on allergymedication, if needed. Be ready before symptoms strike.
