In my experiences I have found that medications can offer some relief to anxiety and panic attacks, but often replace your original problems with more problems.
The side effects of medication can be powerful and disabling.
Below I discuss 3 natural methods to stopping panic attacks and share some of my own experience with these simple steps.
I know how cheesy it sounds to tell people to think happy thoughts, but in this instance it really does help and provide excellent results.
The idea is to keep your mental state in a calm place where you can control your thoughts and steer them away from negative ideas and feelings that can contribute to a panic attack.
When you feel the sudden urge coming on to panic, simply distract yourself by thinking of a happy memory, something funny, a sexual situation, or go watch TV.
I always found that the television was a great distraction when I was feeling uneasy.
The second biggest deterrent of my anxiety was my breathing methods.
I learned quickly that when I was panicking I was not breathing normally or even at all sometimes.
Methodical breathing is a powerful tool in your weaponry against panic attacks and can also distract yourself from the panic itself.
Simply breathe slowly in through your nose, hold that breathe for just a second, and exhale even slower.
Continue this process for several breathes until you feel the panic melting away.
Methodical breathing keeps your brain process on the act of breathing in a certain way and exhaling a different way.
It occupies your thoughts and provides a great distraction from the negative thoughts lingering nearby.
My third and final weapon against those horrible panic attacks came to me by way of studying the disorder itself.
I learned from online medical sites, and then had it confirmed by doctors, that no one has ever died from a panic attack.
Attacks are not deadly in any shape or form and this fact alone provided me with great confidence when facing anxious feelings.
I then knew that I would be OK and had very little to worry about in the way of my anxiety.
It was when I stopped worrying about the panic that I began to successfully beat them before they could even start.
It's been years since I had a panic attack and I successfully avoid them by following the methods above.
These methods are a solid foundation for me in my battle against panic and anxiety and I sincerely hope that they can help you in your battles as well.
