    • 1). Make the connections to the machine. Microphones could go into inputs one and two, a synthesizer could go into input three, and so on. Hook up two speakers and a monitor system to the "Monitor Out" jacks, and insert the headphones to the "Phones" jack.

    • 2). Turn on the power to the devices connected to the input/output jacks, followed by the power to the AW16G and then the monitor system.

    • 3). Watch the screen, and you'll see that a blank song loads.

    • 4). Play back the demo song that's on the hard drive. This will give you an opportunity to get a feel for the faders and front panel keys. In the section of the machine marked "Work Navigate," press the "Song" key. Use the cursor--the up/down buttons--to access the List page. Turn the "data jog" dial (the large dial) to select the song "Ride With Me." Move the cursor to the "Load" button in the screen and press the "Enter" key.

    • 5). Hold the "View" key and use the cursor to access the "View" screen "Meter" page. This is where you see the input level of each channel and the stereo output level.

    • 6). Lower the "Stereo" fader to infinity. Lower the "Monitor Phones" level, too.

    • 7). Press the "Play" key. The demo sing will start and you can see the levels in the level meter. Adjust the monitor levels and listen to the song. Watch the levels. Press "Stop" to stop the song.

    • 8). Rewind the demo song using the "RTZ" key. Press the "Play" button again and move the faders. Use faders 1 to 8 and 9/10 and 15/16. Notice how the levels change on a per-track basis. Press "Stop" to stop the song.

    • 9). Prepare to record your own clip. Press and hold the "Input Sel" key for the jack you used, say the microphone. Tap the microphone and you'll see a visual representation of the sound in the display. Adjust the "Gain" to adjust the input. You want it as high as possible without clipping. Raise the stereo fader to 0 decibels. Move the "Monitor/Phones" knob towards the right and you will begin to hear the tapping through the system.
