Preparing the wall surface is the most important part to ensure that the wallpaper adheres correctly. If the wall is constructed of drywall, prep the surface with an acrylic primer. If you are unsure what type of wall you are working with, you can remove an electrical outlet or light-switch cover to see the thickness of the wall. If it is more than 5/8 of an inch thick, you are most likely dealing with plaster. A good rule of thumb is most homes constructed after 1950 are drywall. If you are unsure, contact a professional. - When selecting the wallpaper, you want to apply make sure to read the manufacturer's instructions. If you do not follow the instructions or use a wallpaper that is not meant to be used for your application, the paper may not adhere. Additionally, misuse or incorrect application may make removing the wall paper difficult if you wish to re-paper in the future.
