Tips For Relaxation and the Relief of Pain

'When will the pain stop?' the client shouted down the phone line.
"When will you be ready to stop?" I calmly replied.
"What do you mean stop?" continued the exasperated client.
"I mean stop - get into bed and STOP everything.
When you remove the pressure - all pressure (physical, chemical and mental) - the pain will abate.

If the pain is of such intensity - apply heat in the form of hot bags, electric heating pads, hot showers, and sun baths - whatever suits the occasion.

Do not eat for 24 hours - have a small glass of pure water at hand for thirst and hygiene - evaluate at the end of this time.
3.
Lie still - practice our rhythmic and diaphragmatic breathing technique.
4.
Enter into a state of conscious relaxation using our rest and relaxation technique.
5.
Do not watch television, play computer games, read newspapers or try to compete with the 'able-bodied' people around you.
Know that the moment you remove one or more of the causes contributing to your particular symptom(s) - at that moment - that precise moment - the pressure, pain and symptoms will begin to ease off and give way to the natural healing process.
" You are now practicing the 'Art of Doing No Thing' - possibly one of your greatest challenges.
I am often reminded that the mental poise necessary to accomplish a state of perfect rest is one which necessitates continual practice.
Without this state of mental poise, this state of mental harmony - all attempts at rest will produce results less than desirable.
