Breakthrough Treatment for Arthritis
- The KVBC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Las Vegas, reports that a new treatment called Visco Supplementation relieved arthritis pain for up to 80 percent of cases tested for almost a year. In the procedure, collagen is injected into the joint to lubricate it.
- Research at Ben-Gurion University in Israel has shown that treating arthritis with the anti-inflammatory drug BL-3030 stops production of a protein in the body that causes inflammation.
- A drug called RoActemra was tested in Ireland as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. The treatment with RoActemra, also known as tocilizumab, reportedly resulted in a remission of symptoms for half of the patients involved.
- According to arthritis.org, Cox-2 drugs offer the benefit of other arthritis drugs without the side effects, such as stomach upset.
- Gold---the same gold used in jewelry---is also used in drug form and has been shown to reduce the inflammation of arthritis.
