    "PaRappa The Rapper"

    • "PaRappa The Rapper" was the original rap video game. The game first released in 1997 for the PlayStation One and then was remade for the handheld PlayStation Portable (PSP) console. The main character is a dog who wants to impress a girl by learning to rap. To rap successfully, you must press the buttons on the controller that match those shown on the screen.

    "Def Jam Rapstar"

    • "Def Jam Rapstar" came out for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii in late 2010. The game lets you perform real rap songs by using a plastic microphone that connects to the gaming console. You have the choice of starting a career or performing individual songs to see what score you can attain. You can also rap alongside or against your friends.

    "DJ Hero"

    • "DJ Hero" takes the same idea behind "Guitar Hero" and lets you create the beats for rap songs on a turntable. The game was released in 2009 for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. Like "Guitar Hero," you must press the right buttons on your turntable to succeed. You can unlock new versions of the songs and new difficulty levels for an additional challenge.

    "DJ Hero 2"

    • The sequel to "DJ Hero" came out in late 2010 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. The game is built on the same premise as the first game, but you have new songs to work with. The game also introduces new turntable techniques like fading and scratching, which means the button scheme gets more complicated and the songs get more difficult.

    "DJ Star"

    • "DJ Star" was released exclusively for the portable Nintendo DS system in 2009. The game centers on your character, an aspiring DJ who wants to become known for his skills by attracting fans. The better you perform on a song, the more fans show up to listen. You use the DS stylus to hit the right beats and scratches to popular songs. You can also earn new items for your character to wear and use.
