Non Perishable Food for Camping
- Freeze dried or precooked fruits and meats are a delicious energy-boosting snack or meal addition to have when you are camping, especially if you are going to be hiking. These nonperishable fruits and meat products will last for days when kept in air-tight containers or bags.
- Granola, protein and energy bars will keep your body nourished with vitamins and minerals. Individual bars, packaged in foil wrappers, are nonperishable, long-lasting and easy to carry when hiking or fishing.
- Canned food works well for quick meals to heat up such as corn beef hash, chili or stew. Individual foods such as Vienna sausages, tuna or chicken spread are good to toss into a hiking pack to have for a sandwich meat with pita pockets or crackers, with individual cans of fruit for dessert.
- Cereal separated into individual serving bags or containers gives you a ready-to-eat breakfast or snack food. Powdered milk is a must for cereal and hot drinks in place of regular milk, which can spoil on a long trip.
- Purchase boxes of the small packets of nuts, crackers, fruit snacks, applesauce, puddings and raisins. Trail mix is a tried-and-true snack to take to ease hunger and give you energy.
- Test nonperishable food products before taking them on a camping trip to prevent physical discomfort if your body does not tolerate dried foods.
