How to Prevent and Treat Allergic Rhinitis
- 1). Stay inside when the pollen count is high, avoid using fans indoors, bathe immediately after being outside, and use air filters as well as your air conditioner if you suffer from hay fever.
- 2). Remove carpet, use air filters and purifiers and keep pets out of areas that are often used if you have indoor allergies.
- 3). Prevent allergic reactions to mold by cleaning surfaces where it can accumulate, such as inside humidifiers, dehumidifiers, refrigerator drip pans and air conditioners.
- 4). Cut down on allergic reactions to dust mites by cleaning your bedding in hot water on a weekly basis and using allergen-proof pillowcases and sheets.
- 5). Alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis by taking prescription medicines called nasal corticosteroids and/or antihistamines. Ask you doctor which brand may be of particular benefit to you.
