How to Save to a Flash Drive in XP
- 1). Locate an empty USB port on your computer and plug your flash drive into it. Your flash drive's drivers are installed automatically.
- 2). Click the Windows "Start" menu and click "My Computer" to launch Windows Explorer. You should see your flash drive in the "Drives" section listed as a portable hard disk.
- 3). Double-click your flash drive's icon to launch its drive window. Drag files from your computer to your flash drive's window to save them to your portable storage device.
- 4). Click the Windows "Start" menu and click the program containing the file you want to save to your flash drive. Click the "File" menu located on the top and click "Save as." This launches the file-saving dialog box.
- 5). Select your flash drive as the location to save your file in. Type a name for your file and click "Save." Your program saves the file to your flash drive.
- 6). Close your flash drives window and close the program you are using. Double-click the "Safely remove hardware icon" on the taskbar. A new hardware window launches. Click your flash drive and click "Stop." Unplug your flash drive from your computer.
