Student Aid - Scholarships For Military Children Program

103 23
The Scholarships for Military Children Program was conceived with the aim of recognizing the efforts made by the families of military personnel to help sustain the US fighting forces worldwide, and to provide funding assistance with respect to education through scholarships.
The SMCP is mainly funded directly by benefactors, such as suppliers and manufacturers, who sell their products at military commissaries around the globe.
The sales of such products also go towards the funding of the scholarship program itself.
The scholarship provides adequate funds for the purchase of tuition, books, as well as other college-related expenses.
In terms of eligibility for the scholarship, applicants are required to be dependent, un-married children under the age of 23.
They must also be the children of military personnel currently on active duty, whether regular or reserve/guard.
They can also be the children of retired military personnel, as well as the survivors of service members killed in active service or who died while in receipt of retirement pay from the military.
All applicants should also make certain that they and their sponsor are enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) database.
They should also ensure that they are in possession of an up-to-date dependent military ID card.
This is crucial, as the DEERS database is the main method by which eligibility will be confirmed for all applicants.
Applicants should also be planning to enroll - or are currently enrolled - in a full-time, undergraduate degree course.
The award is not open to those studying for higher degrees.
Applicants should also have a minimum 3.
0 GPA in order to be eligible, and this is applicable to high school and college students alike.
For those students attending wither a junior or community college, they should be enrolled in a study program that allows them to transfer directly into a four-year program.
Applicants are allowed to submit their application at any commissary, although they are usually recommended to submit their application either where their sponsors usually shop or else closest to where their sponsors live while at the same time seek out additional government education grants where appropriate to help supplement education finances.
