Start the Microsoft Pain program. Click the "Start" button and choose "Programs" from the start menu. Choose "Accessories" from the program list and click "Paint" on the Accessories drop-down menu.

Open the photograph you wish to edit. From the "File" menu, choose "Open" and then browse through your folders until you find your photograph. Click on it to highlight, and then click the "Open" button or double-click the file to open it.

Decide how much of your photograph you'd like to invert. If you'd like to invert only a portion of the photograph, click on the selection tool and drag the dotted box to surround the area you wish to invert.

Invert your colors. Go to the "Image" menu and choose "Invert Colors." You can also press the "Ctrl" key along with the "I" key for a shortcut.

Save your work. If you're satisfied with the result, go to the "File" menu and click "Save." If you want to keep the original picture as it was and save the edited version as a separate file, click "Save As."
