Find the Serial Number

• 1). Identify the type of Colt revolver you own. Colt revolvers come in two different styles: single action and double action. If you are unsure what model of Colt revolver you own, there are two ways to find out. Search for pictures of Colt revolvers on the Internet until you find a matching gun, or visit a local gun dealer, pawn shop or gunsmith to help you in identifying the revolver in question.
  
  
• 2). Place the gun under a strong light. If necessary, use a magnifying glass to locate the serial number. The Colt revolver serial number is usually located on the side of the action, located between the handle and the barrel. The action houses all of the moving parts of the revolver, including the hammer and trigger mechanisms.

• 1). Visit proofhouse.com to match your serial number to the manufacture year of your Colt revolver.

• 3). Click on either "Single Action Revolvers" or "Double Action Revolvers" on the left-hand menu.
  
  
• 4). Click on the Colt revolver model you are searching for on the left-hand menu.
  
  
• 5). Find the serial number on the table that is provided to find the manufacturing year of your Colt revolver.
