    Executing a Headlock Catching Technique

    • 1). Begin by standing alert in front of your opponent, hands up and ready to defend yourself. When you make fists with your hands, keep your middle and index fingers arched out like you have a hook on each hand. Bend slightly at the knees to lower your center of gravity and to give yourself a greater range of movement.

    • 2). Allow your opponent to throw a punch at you. As your opponent does so, step to the side, outside of the punch’s arc. Hit the back of your wrist against the outside of your opponent’s lower forearm to arrest its movement. Then roll your wrist around so you can grasp the arm firmly just below the elbow.

    • 3). Step in closely so your chest is almost pressed against your opponent’s back. Reach past the side of your opponent’s neck with your other arm. Twist your arm downward so the inside of your elbow is pressed against your opponent’s throat. Snake the arm around so that it reaches all the way around to the far side of your opponent’s neck; exert pressure to prevent your opponent from wriggling out of the hold.

    • 4). Take a half step back and twist your body at the waist while pulling your arm down slightly to finish the headlock. Your opponent should be bent backward, one arm grasped in your hand, completely off balance. The only reason your opponent does not fall is that your arm around his/her head is holding him/her up. From this position your opponent is helpless, but you have done practically no harm to him/her.
