How to Put a Chain on a 395 Husqvarna
- 1). Remove the cover on the right hand side of the Husqvarna 395 chain saw by taking off two nuts, with the scrench (combination screwdriver and wrench) tool provided with the saw. Set the cover aside with the nuts inside it.
- 2). Pull the bar away from the saw body to release the chain, which fits in a slot around the bar. The chain should slide off easily once the back of the bar is pulled away from the retaining bolts. Leave the bar loosely on the bolts and remove the chain.
- 3). Inspect the chain for signs of damage on all three chain links: the cutting link with the sharp teeth, the drive link on the bottom of the chain which the sprocket uses to turn the chain and the side link which holds the others together. Look for the cause if the side or drive links are damaged, because the chain may be catching on something. Clean the chain groove in the bar thoroughly, using a small screwdriver or piece of wire to remove any dust or debris in the slot. Make sure it is not bent or damaged in any way.
- 4). Buy the proper replacement chain for a Husqvarna 395. Get either a standard one, or a low-kickback chain, which has modified links to reduce the chance of the chain binding and kicking back. Check with a dealer to get the right type of chain for the 395.
- 5). Put the chain in the groove around the bar and place the two holes in the bar over the retaining bolts. Loosen the bar tension screw with the scrench and stretch the bar until the chain is tight. Replace the cover and hand tighten the retaining nuts. Use the scrench to adjust the chain tension so that the chain is tight on the bar, but still moves freely by hand. Tighten the nuts with the scrench once the chain is properly adjusted.
