Georgia Law Regarding Pools
- A permit is required for an above-ground swimming pool; another requirement is that a county inspector makes a visit during construction and completion of the pool. Swimming pools and equipment must be at least 10 feet from property lines. Pools are forbidden in front yards in urban and suburban areas of Georgia.
- In most Georgia localities, an in-ground or above-ground pool must be surrounded by a fence that can be locked, and the fence must be at least 4 feet high.
- To reduce the risk of overload or fire, Georgia pool owners are required to keep all electrical equipment in a good condition. Modification of heaters or pumps to increase power is prohibited.
No law stipulates the use of ladders in above-ground pools. However, some areas consider it child endangerment if a minor is allowed to swim in a pool without a fixed ladder.
