Consent Letter for The Children Travelling Abroad
Children and Travel
What you should do when your child or children (below age 18 years) are traveling alone or not traveling with both the parents. You should take following steps to avoid any embarrassment to you or your children.
A consent letter- the child should in his/her possession a consent letter from both the parents if accompanying with other than parents.
Identification- the child identity could be verified by way of birth certificate, passport, and citizenship card.
Supportive documents- divorce documents, custody orders from court or the death certificate in case parent(s) deceased.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada has ample information on their website guiding and tendering precaution as to how stress free trip could be possible for such children traveling without both the parents. I do get lots of parents round the year coming to my office getting the consent letter prepared from my office. At that time I myself provide them information on safe trip. There is no harm in checking the procedure from the concerned Airlines at the time of buying ticket. If you have any question on the consent letter, please address to me when you come to my office.
Remember one thing; the main focus of this procedure is "identification of the child and the person accompanying the child"
In my opinion the consent letter must be notarized by a Notary Public appointed by the Government and who has the authority to notarize the documents.
I have the authority to notarize documents. Please make sure when you come to my office you bring all the relevant original identification documents including as stated above.
Should you need any legal help concerning consent letter or any other matter relating to Immigration Law please address to me. Do not hesitate in calling my office to book your appointment
