Colors That Induce the Right Moods

You might find a lot of advice on the internet about room themes and paints, and pictures that show you how a room should ideally look. But the more important aspect of decorating your home is how it should feel. People are different and want different things from their home – some are energetic and need a calming effect, while others are tired and would prefer to be energised. This balancing effect is best brought out in your home by using the right shades. It might be difficult to believe, but colours have a very real effect on our moods. Some tend to be calming and others, energising. It is important to know which shades do what, so that you don't use them to the wrong effect. Some of the more common colours used are red, green and blue. These, being most common, have a decided effect on us because we're exposed to them so often.

Red is passionate. It is a shade that will give you energy, and in overdoses, make you restless. Because of its vigorous nature, red paint is not recommended for bedrooms. After all, at the end of a long work day, you need to be able to sleep peacefully. On the other hand, if you're looking to fire up your relationship, then it might do well in medium doses. So instead of dousing the entire room in red, you may consider a feature wall. Painting a wall red, or using it on accessories like bed sheets, pillow covers and blankets is best, because you have the option of changing them if you feel there is too much red around you. Be warned: keep any signs of red away from children's rooms. You could also use orange to a similar effect, though obviously a whole wall would seem too much at times. It's best that you stick to accessories when you're incorporating orange into your home decoration.

If you're looking for colour combinations for children's rooms, you should try blue. This is a shade that is well known for being calming and serene, like the vast seas and oceans. Blue is good for calming down childish energy, but it can seem cold in certain kinds of light. If you want something bright and cheerful, then you can use shades like aquamarine. But if you're more of an earthy person than a sea-loving one, then you could use green instead. It has same kind of calming energy that blue does. It can be combined with other earth tones like brown to induce a feeling of being in the arms of nature.
