How to Win at Galaga
- 1). Shoot as many ships as possible in the first round. At some point in the round, a ship will descend and emit a beam of light. Guide your ship to the light. That lets the enemy capture your ship. The next ship appears, at which point the game resumes.
- 2). Wait for the enemy ship that has yours attached to it descend again. Shoot the ship at that point. This frees your ship from the enemy's grip, and your ship automatically attaches to create a double weapon. Instead of firing one shot at a time, your ship now fires twice.
- 3). Position your ship on the left or right side of the screen, based on where the ships come in during the opening of each round. The enemy ships fly into formation, and attacking ships as they come on screen takes out most of the fighters. Eliminating ships as they organize makes the rest of the round easier to accomplish.
- 4). Every third stage in Galaga is a challenge stage. Five waves of fighters come in from varying points on screen. Fire your weapons to knock out the ships as they approach. You cannot be killed during this stage, so racking up points is the sole goal. A bonus is awarded for eliminating each fighter in one stage, and knocking out all 40 fighters awards you 10,000 points. If all 40 fighters aren't removed, the bonus is 100 times the number of ships hit.
- 5). Watch for the mutating Galaga fighters in later stages. At times, a ship morphs into three insect-style craft that descend toward your fighters. Knocking out all three awards a bonus between 1,000 and 3,000 points, depending on the stage and the insect craft present on screen.
- 6). If the enemy crashes into part of your ship and you lose double firepower, get it back as quickly as possible. Having two fighters firing helps roll up points in this game. Until you get dual power back, shoot as many fighters as possible.
