Ways to Meet New Friends When You Are a Stay at Home Mum

103 25
Motherhood is far from the ideal time to begin making new friends or socialising.
You no longer have the freedom of choosing exactly when and where you can go out to as you have children that you must schedule your life around.
Mums can often find themselves isolated if they have had children before their friends, if they move to a new area or if their friends are working and they are not.
For stay at home mums, making new friends and interacting with like minded people can be particularly difficult.
Here are a few ways you can meet other mums and get your social life back on track: Try looking at mother and baby groups in your area if your child is under school age.
These can often be daunting as there will be mothers there that know each other due to being 'regulars' but they will all be willing to talk and make new friends too, so go in and be confident in the process.
Not only will you be making new friends for yourself, but your child will also be seeing the benefits of social interaction with other children.
You may also want to try attending baby signing classes, baby massage classes and other similar activities targeted at younger children.
These classes usually offer an opportunity to take a coffee break and interact with other mums that are taking their children there.
Another great way to interact with others is by taking an evening class.
You will be able to expand on your skills and meet other adults at the same time.
Many local colleges offer free or relatively cheap courses targeted at adults, ranging from developing basic language skills to learning a new A-Level or IT Certification course.
Such classes will not only benefit you socially, but you will also be able to return to the work place with confidence if you choose to do so.
One great resource for finding local groups and mummy meet ups is netmums.
com.
You can find activities that are local to you and take advantage of their local mum meet up board.
There are going to be other mums like you that want to socialise and develop a network of friends.
Making friends as a stay at home mum need not be impossible, it is simply a case of putting yourself out there for other people to meet.
