Just because leaves are starting to drop and turn color doesn't mean you're out of decorating ideas! Building a beautiful, fresh and original fall centerpiece is a snap if you know what to look for.
Whether you're getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner, building fall wedding centerpieces or simply enhancing your surroundings, these centerpieces are a snap! Step 1: Get Outside! There are so many natural materials you can use to fill out a beautiful fall centerpiece in your home.
Even if you don't have a yard, a park or walking trail near your house will most likely yield bountiful supplies.
Here are some wonderful foliage choices:
  • Oak leaves
  • Maple leaves
  • Pine Cones
  • Small Evergreen branches (still alive)
  • Crab Apples (that are not quite past their prime)
  • Coloured twigs
Step 2: Get Fresh...
Flowers that is!
Using fresh flowers in your original centerpiece is a must.
In Autumn, we like to look to yellows, oranges, reds and deep greens for our bouquets, but you can also choose some brighter colors as an accent.
Florists are wonderful resources for flower arrangement ideas as well.
(You can even use potted plants if you are using a tray or wreath as a base.
) Here are some beautiful fall blossoms:
  • Sunflowers (Helianthus works well - smaller variety)
  • Roses: yellow, red and orange
  • Chrysanthemums
  • Gerberas
  • Ivy
  • Asiatic lilies: available in a variety of darker colours
  • General Greenery
Step 3: Add Your Accent Do you think it's just not Thanksgiving without pumpkins? Then run to your local supermarket (or garden, if you've been preparing for this all year!) and pick out some produce to help accent your centerpiece and add that extra special touch.
Here are some fresh fruits, veggies, odds and ends to accent your piece:
  • Pears
  • Apples: Green or Red
  • Corn (dried works best)
  • Squash or gourds
  • Mini Or Medium sized pumpkins: These are available in white, orange, green, etc.
  • Candles
Step 4: Choose Your Base Now that you have all of your items for your floral centerpieces, you can choose the base that you will install everything on.
(To keep flowers fresh if you are not using a container with water in your centerpiece, visit your local florist for some floral foam.
) You can use flat pieces, containers, or both.
Here's a great base list to help you organize your greenery:
  • Tray: Can have flowers in a vase or a potted plant in the midst of other items
  • Large Vase or Bowl
  • Large Clay Pot
  • Cornucopia Container: this a very traditional look
  • Basket
  • Wreath: the wreath can lay flat on the table with all of the pieces inside.
There are so many ways to create your own original arrangement; whether you're creating fall wedding centerpieces or decorating your home, this is sure to help you create a masterpiece!
